Paying Casual Staff
When giving a payslip to a casual employee, the base rate of pay and the casual loading amounts need to be listed separately. This is a ruling from Fair Work Australia and is worthy of an on-the-spot fine if they audit you on a bad day! For example, the base rate in an award might be $16. Casual loading is 25%, in this case $4, totalling $20 per hour. Most software shows only the total hourly rate ($20) on payslips, so the employer may need to include the breakdown (base rate $16 plus casual loading $4) in a note at the bottom of the payslip or in the covering email instead. We have notified both MYOB and Xero that we are required by law to do this and would like a simple way to include it in the payslip!
