Do you use your internet, mobile or home phone for work?
The ATO have issued an information sheet setting out how phone and internet expenses can be claimed.
To be able to substantiate your business use on your phone and devices a four week diary needs to be kept. This diary will need be also be updated every year.
These records may include diary entries, bills and preferably evidence that the employer expects them to work at home or make work related calls.
The four week diary will need to be completed starting in the 2015-16 year. So when you send in your information to your accountant for the 2016 tax return you will need to include your 4 week diary for internet and telephone use to get the maximum benefit.
