Claiming personal superannuation contributions
If you intend to claim a tax deduction for personal supererannuation contributions you made in the previous financial year, you must first notify your fund or RSA that you intend to do so.
Generally, you will be able to use a form prepared by your fund or RSA. If you have your own self managed superannuation fund, the ATO provides a standard form which can be used and is found here
Your fund or RSA must then reply to advise you that they have received a valid notice.
You then need to provide this confirmation from your fund or RSA to us before your tax return is prepared. Failure to have this notice will mean the ATO will disallow your deduction for superannuation contributions under an audit.
