Understanding how and why we are likely to spend money around Christmas time makes it easier for us to manage that spending.
An interesting piece of research commissioned by the Commonwealth Bank two years ago with 1060 Australians offered fascinating insight into how, where and when Australians collectively spend over $16 billion during the Christmas period.
It will come as no surprise that the bulk of our spending is on Christmas gifts. We generously hand over $7.8 billion for presents. Another $3.7 billion is spent on holidays – hotels, airfares etc – by 3.2 million of us who go away for a break.
