All Along the Watchtower
In the Hendrix classic two riders are approaching having been seen from the watchtower, it’s not know whether these riders are friends or foe.
Do you know what’s approaching your business and can the information be passed up the line effectively so that decisions can be made? Generally our ‘watchtowers’ are our systems that measure key indicators of how business is doing. They are often a combination of leading and lagging indicators such as number of sales enquiries (leading) or new business signed up (lagging). But the people on watchtowers not only looked internally within the city walls, they also looked out to the distance across oceans and fields to be able to discern and prepare for future events.
Are you keeping up to date with changes in your industry, what your competitors are doing as well as external organisations that might be able to assist in your own business efforts? If not, perhaps you need to set up an outwardly facing watchtower.
Once your watchtowers are set up, manned with people who know what to look for and can recognize friends from foes, you also need to ensure that you have measures in place for these people to be able to pass what they are seeing back to the kingdom, or business owner. Whilst you visualize your current and plan your future watchtowers why not listen to the classic itself.
